Arctic Fox
The Arctic Fox has become endangered in Sápmi. A major contributory factor is that the Red Fox is foraging at higher altitudes and has taken over most of the traditional habitat of the Arctic Fox. On a global scale the conservation status of the species is good throughout their range, except for the land locked Fenno-Scandinavian/Sápmi population.
However, 2011 looks like it is going to be a good year for the Arctic Fox. This year there are plenty of rodents and the abundance of Norwegian Lemming (lemmus lemmus) has hopefully helped to give the pups a good start in life. This photo of a pup was taken by our photographer Magnus Ström who works closely with the game wardens in Västerbotten.
