Adventure begins with Sápmi Experience!
VisitSápmi launch the Sámi tourism initiative Sápmi Experience.
Sápmi Experience is the quality label for Sámi tourism service providers. The Quality label represents compliance with Sámi know-how, responsible travel, and sustainable practices. But, what would a Sápmi Experience be worth if it didn’t also reflect fun and unique adventures?
Our first batch of approved companies:
- Renbiten will guide you over the Dalafjäll Mountains with Sámi know-how serving food produced by themselves from their own environment.
- Hävvi i Glen offer sport fishing in waters carefully managed so the wild Brown trout and Arctic char won’t be overfished, or the land overused. In their restaurant traditional Sámi dishes are served made from recipes used for generations. And some modern dishes with a personal twist.
- Njarka Sameläger in Åre will let you experience the reindeer, Sámi traditions and the Sámi peoples’ history. Experiences formed in nature through the traditions of reindeer grazing.
- Laponia FlyFishing offers exclusive fly-fishing for some of northern Europe’s largest Arctic char and Brown trout. Fishing takes place in the traditional Sámi reindeer herding lands of the World Heritage site of Laponia – the largest expanse of protected areas and national parks in Sweden.
- Ájtte - Svenskt Fjäll och Samemuseum in Jokkmokk is the Sámi museum. In a modern and tasteful way the museum tells the story of the Sámi. Arctic garden and mountain tourism information is also available to visitors.
- Fjällhästen in Ammarnäs take you on horseback to the land of Gran Same Village. Knowledge of the land and of horsemanship combine to create an unforgettable experience.
Follow us closely as many Sámi companies are now applying for Sápmi Experience. We are also hearing from neighbouring Norway in particular that they also are interested in joining forces with us at VisitSápmi. Hopefully Russia and Finland also want to join.
