Duodji - handicraft
Most Sámi people have a special bond to handicrafts. In Sámi culture the handicraft is important for the identity of a person and reflects your lifestyle, history and heritage.
For past generations the Sámi handicraft was part of their everyday lifestyle needs. We have always crafted our own clothes and tools from reindeer skin, antlers, bone and sinew.
But in today’s society the traditions of the past meet new materials and young Sámi people’s design and creativity. Today it's perfectly normal for a Sámi to see a computer flash drive fashioned out of reindeer antler.
During this time of the year, spring and early summer it is a good idea to explore Sámi handicrafts if you are visiting Sápmi . Follow the link to Continue to Facts and you will find some interesting Sámi craft and design companies.
