Sami belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family as do Finnish, Estonian, Livonian and Hungarian. And these languages are consequently related to each other. Various other languages also belong to the same group and are spoken by people as far away as the Ural Mountains in Russia. Examples are Udmurtian, the Mordvinic languages, Mari and Komi.
