How should a Sámi tourism company support the sameby reindeer cooperative it operates in?
A business using reindeer grazing land must consult with the relevant reindeer cooperative (sameby) on an annual basis. The owner of the enterprise must report the nature and outcome of these consultations to the Sápmi Experience assessor. Each year, the Sápmi Experience assessor will verify that consultation has taken place as reported in the application. Sample agreements are available from VisitSápmi.
The company must give something back to the long-term living environment of the relevant sameby. Visitors will be informed of this and will be shown how this measure supports the survival of the sameby cooperatives.
