What types of businesses can operate within the framework of the Sápmi Experience Quality Mark?

Key concepts for the Sápmi Experience are quality, sustainability and credibility. Companies with the Quality Mark are tourism enterprises that offer high-quality products, operate sustainably in all areas, and conduct themselves in a credible and trustworthy manner toward their guests. Quality also entails being able to present the Sámi lifestyle and culture in a credible way.

Sápmi Experience businesses may include companies that sell goods and products from the Sámi culture, produced by Sámi people or produced through Sámi ownership.

Sápmi Experience wants to encourage “packaged” products. An example is a package comprising accommodation, transfers, activities and meals. This facilitates sales by making it easier for the visitor to see what needs to be booked. It also generates more income to the local community. The entire community benefits when convenient packages are offered comprising activities, accommodation, souvenirs, meals, transfers and visits to Sámi cultural institutions and events. This also supports sustainable development by reducing the number of people travelling in individual parties.

Companies offering rental services may also be awarded the Sápmi Experience Quality Mark if they meet the criteria.

There is no need to describe in more detail exactly what types of tourism product will be approved, as this would restrict the development of products. Instead, compliance with the criteria and the philosophy behind Sápmi Experience will be evaluated when the company is assessed. The information the company presents to support its application will be weighed in at that time.  Gradually, a common procedure will be developed. A company whose application is rejected will be able to appeal against the decision. The appeal will be considered by a committee of elected representatives appointed by SSR.
